» What exactly is FiberCrafty?
FiberCrafty is a new marketplace option for the fiber crafting community. It’s like a vendor hall without the event. It’s like a matchmaker for the people who want to buy fiber related supplies and stuff and the people with stuff for sale. The primary focus at this time is for goods and tools to help knitters, crocheters, weavers, and spinners. Maybe one day we will branch into other needle arts but we figured we would start with what we know.
» Why is FiberCrafty different?
Part 1. Have you heard the importance of location, location, location? Well, it still applies although it is no longer limited to a physical location. As you no doubt pride yourself on your stash enhancing skills, you want to be at the right time and place for that next acquisition. If you are also a small business owner, you want your products in front of the people who will be appreciative and purchase them. Another way to think about it is vending at a festival. Would you prefer to set up a booth at the local community art festival? Or at a local fiber festival? Me too. Not only would I rather set up a booth there, but I would also rather shop there.
Part 2. I love a good filter when online shopping, don’t you? FiberCrafty has the ability to filter through listed postings with terms specific to fiber crafting - how about that red-purple, corriedale, fingering weight yarn with a touch of sparkle?
Part 3. Raise your hand if you have ever struggled to find an online shop you heard about. Well, we know that after you heard about Suzy Sparkle’s yarn on your favorite podcast, you immediately searched for the online shop. But you didn’t know she spelled it Susie. We are making your searches a little easier.
Part 4. Saving the best for last, FiberCrafty was designed by fiber crafty people for fiber crafty people. Our sole focus is this niche so our updates and enhancements are only going to make us better. Speaking of which, we want your ideas and suggestions so don’t hold back!
» Who is FiberCrafty designed for?
FiberCrafty is designed for the people who are… well… fiber crafty. People looking for their next project bag, beautiful crochet hook, or that perfect blue, kettle dyed yarn. And the businesses that have these fiber crafty supplies to sell. Our general rule of thumb is that the audience for FiberCrafty has shared interests in Ravelry and/or attending fiber festivals.

One of our primary goals is to be available on a global level! At first, we will only be able to support shops based in the US*. Adding support for shops internationally adds additional layers of complexity so we made the decision to tackle it after our initial roll-out. *US based shops will be able to provide global shipping.

» What can I expect from FiberCrafty in the future?
Believe us, we have lots of ideas for future enhancements and we expect to come up with even more through your feedback. We had to make some decisions about what to include in this first release, and what to set aside for future development. If we didn't, we would never be ready to go live. When we have planned update information, we will share it here and on the blog.

» As a shop owner, how will I get paid?
FiberCrafty runs a nightly payout to your PayPal account.
» I knit/crochet/weave/felt finished items like clothes and blankets. Should I sell them on FiberCrafty?
Probably not, but... Your items will appeal to people who are likely not fiber crafty. A marketplace that targets the general public is a better choice. That said, if you are the adventurous type and want to try it, we won't stop you! Our general rule of thumb is that the audience for FiberCrafty has shared interests in Ravelry and/or attending fiber festivals. If you have something that would appeal to that population, go for it. And if you are generally driving customers directly to your FiberCrafty shop rather than being "found" on another marketplace, that will work too.
» I am a designer and sell patterns, should I sell them on FiberCrafty?
Nope but read on! Let’s face it, Ravelry is ridiculously amazing and they do many things very, very well. One of those is pattern purchasing and management. FiberCrafty has the ability to support downloads for purchase but it is not currently activated. We are leaving that to those that do it well. However, we would love to talk to you about your patterns and how you might think they will partner with yarns. We would love to provide pattern suggestions to our customers!
